Team Fishel’s operation in Rochester, PA held its 2nd annual Open House just before Thanksgiving, and the turnout was spectacular! Fifty-one potential Teammates joined us for an informative evening which proved to be a valuable experience for all. The three-hour event created the perfect opportunity for Team Fishel and its guests to get to know one another – and that was the whole point.
“The focus of the event was not to interview,” said David Harpham, Midwest HR Manager. “We wanted our guests to learn about who we are, and why culture and values have made us successful for 81 years. We wanted them to leave this experience with a really good understanding of why they might want a career at Team Fishel. I believe we achieved that.”
The agenda kicked off with the ‘Team Fishel Opportunities’ video followed by opening remarks which set the tone for the entire evening. Ryan Homberger, Rochester Area Manager, spoke of Team Fishel’s growth in the local market, the importance of our shared core values and the strength of the Team Fishel brand. Harpham commented on Team Fishel’s history, values and the opportunities that exist for every Teammate.
Several members of the senior management team were also on hand for the event. Scott Homberger, VP- Midwest Region; Craig Mathes, VP, Safety & Human Resources; and Tim Griffin, Regional Area Manager each took a few moments to welcome our guests. They were joined by Safety Coordinator Candice Grant and HR Manager John Thurmond.
“It’s not about us. It’s about you,” Scott Homberger said. “Understanding who you are, and making sure that you understand who we are, is the most important thing we can do this evening.”
To that end, the next two hours were spent interacting with our guests. The PA management team and more than a dozen Teammate volunteers joined the groups at every table, encouraging folks to share their backgrounds and personal stories. Our Teammates also provided plenty of information about working at Team Fishel and the career opportunities they earned.
“If you have skills, great,” Ryan Homberger assured attendees. “But if not, we’re still very interested. We will train you. Today, we want to show you how our culture and values have provided great opportunities for great Teammates.”
Many thanks to our Rochester Teammates who volunteered their time to lend a hand at the Open House. Anthony Oliva, Brian Kiss, Craig McCaslin, Dustin Burr, Kayla LaRock, Kenny Massioni, Nick Martin, Nunzio Lombardozzi, Todd Hogan, Timmy Dunlap, and Ashley Pawuk helped make this event a winner!
The Open House wrapped up with a tour of the Training facilities and, based on comments from our guests, the entire evening was a huge success. It was great to hear feedback such as, “I’ve never been to anything like this before. I really liked it” and “This is really something. We appreciate it!”
It’s very clear that Team Fishel continues to build a great reputation in Southwestern, Pennsylvania. In addition to potential Teammates who have discovered us on their own, representatives from the Beaver County Career & Technology Center also attended the Open House. Other organizations including the New Castle School of Trades and the Washington Greene County Job Training Agency have also expressed interest in what we do.
Congratulations to the Rochester Team for hosting an Open House that was rewarding for all. One of our guests really hit the nail on the head when he said, “The word on the street is that Team Fishel is the place you want to be!” We agree!
