Team Fishel’s operation in Rochester, PA held its 2nd annual Open House just before Thanksgiving, and the turnout was spectacular! Fifty-one potential Teammates joined us for an informative evening which proved to be a valuable experience for all. The three-hour event created the perfect opportunity for Team Fishel and its guests to get to know one another – and that was the whole point.
“The focus of the event was not to interview,” said David Harpham, Midwest HR Manager. “We wanted our guests to learn about who we are, and why culture and values have made us successful for 81 years. We wanted them to leave this experience with a really good understanding of why they might want a career at Team Fishel. I believe we achieved that.”
The agenda kicked off with the ‘Team Fishel Opportunities’ video followed by opening remarks which set the tone for the entire evening. Ryan Homberger, Rochester Area Manager, spoke of Team Fishel’s growth in the local market, the importance of our shared core values and the strength of the Team Fishel brand. Harpham commented on Team Fishel’s history, values and the opportunities that exist for every Teammate.
Several members of the senior management team were also on hand for the event. Scott Homberger, VP- Midwest Region; Craig Mathes, VP, Safety & Human Resources; and Tim Griffin, Regional Area Manager each took a few moment to welcome our guests. They were joined by Safety Coordinator Candice Grant and HR Manager John Thurmond.
“It’s not about us. It’s about you,” Scott Homberger said. “Understanding who you are, and making sure that you understand who we are, is the most important thing we can do this evening.”
To that end, the next two hours were spent interacting with our guests. The PA management team and more than a dozen Teammate volunteers joined the groups at every table, encouraging folks to share their backgrounds and personal stories. Our Teammates also provided plenty of information about working at Team Fishel and the career opportunities they earned.
“If you have skills, great,” Ryan Homberger assured attendees. “But if not, we’re still very interested. We will train you. Today, we want to show you how our culture and values have provided great opportunities for great Teammates.”
Many thanks to our Rochester Teammates who volunteered their time to lend a hand at the Open House. Anthony Oliva, Brian Kiss, Craig McCaslin, Dustin Burr, Kayla LaRock, Kenny Massioni, Nick Martin, Nunzio Lombardozzi, Todd Hogan, Timmy Dunlap, and Ashley Pawuk helped make this event a winner!
The Open House wrapped up with a tour of the Training facilities and, based on comments from our guests, the entire evening was a huge success. It was great to hear feedback such as, “I’ve never been to anything like this before. I really liked it” and “This is really something. We appreciate it!”
It’s very clear that Team Fishel continues to build a great reputation in Southwestern, Pennsylvania. In addition to potential Teammates who have discovered us on their own, representatives from the Beaver County Career & Technology Center also attended the Open House. Other organizations including the New Castle School of Trades and the Washington Greene County Job Training Agency have also expressed interest in what we do.
Congratulations to the Rochester Team for hosting an Open House that was rewarding for all. One of our guests really hit the nail on the head when he said, “The word on the street is that Team Fishel is the place you want to be!” We agree!
Divisions 11 & 12 have made their Thanksgiving Food Drive a wonderful annual tradition and this year’s event was the best ever! Teammates collected food, filled eight baskets to the brim, and delivered them to families in their community before the Thanksgiving holiday.
Our Kentucky Teammates have organized a Thanksgiving Food Drive every year since 2010. And once again, they demonstrated that a little planning, lots of participation and the desire to lend a hand are the best recipe for success. This year, Teammates sold fried bologna, egg and cheese breakfast sandwiches before the November Safety meeting to support the Food Drive. They also organized a 50/50 Raffle Split and, of course, everyone helped by spreading the word. To top it off, this year's raffle winner, J.J. Underwood, kindly donated the winnings back to the Food Drive effort.
Thanks to all the Teammates who helped make this year’s Food Drive a success! Working together to help others makes Thanksgiving the best it can be!

After wreaking havoc in the Caribbean in early September, Hurricane Irma tore through the Florida Keys and swept northward through Florida. It was the most intense Atlantic hurricane to strike the United States since Katrina in 2005, and the first major hurricane to make landfall in Florida since Wilma in 2005. Team Fishel stood ready to help with the storm restoration just as we have in the past and, as Irma pushed through Florida, we mobilized immediately.
Nearly 200 Fishel Teammates deployed for the restoration effort including 137 from our Plant City and Groveland, FL operations and 54 who traveled from our Cabot, AR division. Team Fishel focused on helping our customers Tampa Electric (TECO) and Duke Energy restore electric power for thousands of residents in the Tampa and Orlando areas. We utilized a fleet of 90 vehicles including bucket trucks, line trucks, command trailers and more to repair overhead electric lines as quickly and efficiently as possible.
We are immensely proud of our Teammates and their High Performance effort that helped many Floridians bring life back to normal. And as so often happens, it is the thoughts of those we help that really say it all. Here are some of the comments we have received on Team Fishel’s Facebook Page.
“Thank you so much for your support here in Florida. Just saw a crew working this morning in Plant City!”
“Thanks for your help in Haines City, Florida....my power is finally back…Awesome team thanks again!”
“I saw a convoy of Team Fishel trucks this morning in Apopka, FL- THANK YOU!! You are appreciated!!”
“Just saw a bunch of your trucks near my home in Tampa, FL. THANK YOU for sending crews to help us get back on our feet after this hurricane. I'm sure it's been long, hot days helping us out. Appreciate it!”
“We are on our way to Gainesville GA, and have been passing your Team Fishel electric trucks! What a wonderful thing you all are doing! Keep up the great work!
Thanks to all for the many kind words. We’re always glad to help and we are proud to be a part of your communities.
Team Fishel had a busy September helping thousands of Florida residents restore electric power in the wake of Hurricane Irma. When a budding young broadcast journalist caught up with us in Tampa, Teammates Chad Jackson and John Seymour were happy to make time for an on-camera interview. In the process, they both made a new friend as well!
Be sure to check out the video interviews below, produced by the Bassett family of Tampa, FL. Very nicely done and a great way to introduce Fishel Teammates to the communities we serve! We’re not sure if that young reporter has considered a career in broadcast journalism just yet. But one thing is certain. He is destined to accomplish great things!
We thank the Bassett family for allowing us to share their videos, and Teammates Chad and John for their participation. Great work all around!
On Friday, September 15th our diet consisted of lots of greens! There was no better way to end the summer and reconnect with our Customers than by playing a round of 18 holes under blue skies and plenty of sunshine! We truly appreciate everyone who joined us for the 8th Annual Customer Appreciation Golf Outing. The day consisted of long & short drives, unnecessarily long putts, fabulous food, great giveaways and best of all, outstanding company! Thank you to the New Albany Links Golf Club who did an exceptional job hosting our group again this year.
We especially want to thank all our sponsors. You “Chipped In” to make the day possible and more enjoyable!
Anixter, ARC Document Solutions, City of Columbus, Columbus FiberNet, CommScope, DitchWitch Mid-States, Englefield Oil Company, Galloway Group, Herc Rentals, Iron Equipment Rental, John Deere, M-Tech, Murphy Tractor, Ohio Utilities Protection Service, Rush Truck Centers, The Energy Cooperative, Vermeer Heartland
And what would a golf outing be without its winners? Congratulations to the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd placed teams! Each winning team member took home a New Albany Links gift card.
In addition to the stellar low scores from the winners, we did have some individuals who excelled at the game. Shout out to several men and women who “came to play” and received a Gift Card to the New Albany Links Golf Shop!
It was nice to take advantage of the warmer temps, relax with friends and enjoy the day! Thank you again for “swinging by”, and we look forward to seeing everyone next year for the 9th Annual Customer Appreciation Golf Outing!!
Team Fishel enjoyed participating in Festival Latino in Columbus last weekend! This year’s celebration was an outstanding success for the entire Columbus community and the family-friendly atmosphere welcomed all. Perfect weather all weekend helped make the festival an irresistible destination. Initial estimates pointed toward the highest attendance ever, possibly more than 200,000!
Festival Latino is the largest Hispanic/Latino event in Ohio, and attracts a multicultural audience from throughout Ohio and the surrounding states. In just over two weeks, Ohioans will once again enjoy a taste of Latin America! Festival Latino 2017 will be held August 12-13 at Genoa Park in downtown Columbus. Lively music and dancing, cultural and art workshops for children and adults, and authentic Latin American cuisine offer something of everyone. Festival Latino promises an enjoyable time for all and Team Fishel is ready to join the fun!
The literal translation is “across the table,” but Sobremesa actually refers to a Spanish tradition that is truly delightful. Sobremesa means the time we spend chatting and relaxing with family or friends right after a meal. Team Fishel would like to see folks enjoy that special time at Festival Latino as well! To help make that happen, we are very pleased to sponsor the Dining Tents at this year’s event. That’s where the festival’s theme of food and family will come together, the perfect place to enjoy a great meal, good conversation and some time out of the sun.
We can’t think of a better way for Team Fishel to support this exciting community event. After all, Team Fishel has been a family-owned company for more than 80 years, and our family has grown to a workforce of nearly 2,400 Teammates across the nation. We are immensely proud of each one of them and the strong core values that all of us share. Of course, we love good food as well, and being close to all the delicious Latin American cuisine at the festival is an added benefit!

In the Spirit of competitiveness and camaraderie, our fearless Teammates and friends once again made us proud. Buoyed and supported by some of our finest Marines and Navy personnel, they trudged up 6.2 miles of unending hills, conquered multiple obstacles and pushed through a lot of mud! All to prove they were up for the challenge of the annual Marine Corps Mud Run at Camp Pendleton, CA, the weekend of June 10th & 11th. Many other mud warriors eager to compete joined us for the exciting – and exhausting – two day event.
Thanks to the Marines, Navy, corporate sponsors and all the community support, the Camp Pendleton event is recognized as one of the biggest and best mud runs in the country! A special OORAH goes out to United Rentals for their sponsorship of the event and the VIP treatment for our teammates and friends. Especially welcomed were the hot showers at the end of this grueling race. With grateful hearts and sore bodies, thank you United Rentals!
Exhausted and exhilarated, our team accomplished this event in “High Performance Mode”, just as Team Fishel does on a daily basis throughout the nation.
The Camp Pendleton Mud Run is sponsored by the U.S. Marine Corps Special Operations Command and organized by Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS). Revenue generated by MCCS activities supports quality-of-life programs for our Marines, Sailors and their families. Team Fishel is proud to be part of the event and we join our fellow Americans in thanking all the men and women serving in our Armed Forces.
